How to Pitch a Brand as an Influencer (Without Getting Ignored)

Most influencer pitches fail because they're vague. Here's the exact format brands respond to — and why a professional media kit is the difference between a reply and silence.

Most influencer pitches don't get ignored because the creator wasn't talented enough. They get ignored because the pitch gave the brand nothing to work with — no stats, no rates, no clear ask.

If you've ever sent a pitch and heard nothing back, it almost certainly wasn't about your follower count. It was about how you presented yourself. And that's something you can fix starting today. Make sure your pitch includes clear rates — use our guide on how to create a creator rate card to get that sorted first.

Why Most Influencer Pitches Get Ignored

Brand managers receive dozens of creator pitches every week. The ones that get deleted fall into the same patterns every time:

  • "Let me know if you want to collab!" No concrete offer, no rates, no deliverables. This puts all the work on the brand — and they won't do it.
  • Follower count without engagement data. Brands have been burned by inflated numbers. Sharing your follower count alone — without engagement rate or niche data — signals inexperience.
  • No past results. "I have a highly engaged audience" means nothing without proof. Even one concrete result from a past collaboration changes the conversation entirely.
  • No rates included. Not mentioning pricing forces the brand to ask — a friction step that causes many to simply move on.

The fix isn't working harder. It's sending a more professional, data-backed pitch — and that starts with having the right structure and supporting materials.

What Brands Actually Want to See in a Pitch

When a brand manager opens your pitch, they're asking five questions — and if you don't answer them, someone else will.

1. Niche Fit

Does your content actually reach their target customer? Specificity wins here. "Sustainable fashion for millennial professionals" is far more compelling than "lifestyle content."

2. Audience Data

Age range, gender split, top locations. Real numbers from your analytics, not estimates. Brands evaluate these against their own customer profile before they'll respond to anything else.

3. Past Results

If you've worked with a brand before, show the outcome — views, clicks, engagement rate, a testimonial. If you haven't, your best-performing organic posts are a proxy. Results beat promises every time.

4. Rates

Include your rates, or at least a starting range. It pre-qualifies the conversation and signals that your time has value. Creators who list rates close deals faster than those who make brands ask.

5. A Clear Ask

What exactly are you proposing? One Reel? A Reel + Stories package? A 30-day collaboration with three deliverables? Brands can't approve a vague "let's work together." They can approve a specific offer.

The Pitch Format That Works

Whether you're sending a cold DM or a cold email, the structure is the same: hook → credibility → offer → CTA.

  • Hook: One sentence that demonstrates niche fit. Not "I love your brand" — something like "I've been covering sustainable fashion for 18 months and my audience actively asks for product recs in your price range."
  • Credibility: Two to three sentences of hard stats — follower count, engagement rate, one standout result. Keep it scannable.
  • Offer: Specific deliverables and starting rate. Remove the guesswork for them.
  • CTA: One clear ask. "Would you be open to a quick call this week?" or "I've attached my media kit — let me know if this feels like a fit."

Total length: under 150 words for a cold DM, under 300 for an email. Brand managers are busy. Brevity signals confidence.

Your Media Kit Is Your Pitch's Backbone

Here's the part most creators skip: even a well-written pitch isn't enough on its own. The credibility gap closes when you attach a professional media kit.

A media kit transforms your pitch from "some creator's DM" into a professional proposal — the kind that can be forwarded to a marketing team and acted on without a follow-up call. It puts your stats, audience demographics, content examples, and rates in one scannable document.

Without a media kit, a curious brand still has to dig for your information. With one, they have everything they need to say yes. The difference in response rates is significant — and it's not because one creator was better than the other. It's because one made it easier for the brand to act.

Keep your media kit to 3–5 pages: one page of platform stats and audience data, one page of past work and results, one page of rates and packages. Clean design, real numbers, no filler. Update it every quarter.

A professional media kit does the heavy lifting — brands open them, read them, and respond. Before you send your next pitch, read what brands actually want to see in a media kit — then download the Influencer Media Kit Template to build it in minutes.

A 3-Sentence Pitch Template You Can Steal

Use this as your starting point and customise it for every brand:

"Hi [Name], I create [content type] for [specific audience description] — [platform] with [follower count] followers and a [X]% engagement rate. I've worked with [past brand or relevant experience] and specialise in [niche]. I'd love to put together a [specific deliverable] package for [campaign type] — I've attached my media kit and would be happy to tailor a proposal if this feels like a fit."

That's it. Hook, credibility, offer. Three sentences. The media kit does the rest — your stats, your portfolio, your rates, all in one place that a brand manager can open in thirty seconds and forward to their team.

The creators who consistently land brand deals aren't always the ones with the biggest followings. They're the ones who make it easy for brands to say yes — with a clear pitch and professional supporting materials.

You don't need more followers. You need a better pitch.
